What Happens During a Root Canal?
A root canal requires that you first receive local anesthesia to make sure you are numb and feel no pressure or pain throughout the procedure. One of our dentists will then use a dental dam to isolate the tooth, preventing any moisture from reaching the area. We will create a small opening in the crown of the affected tooth and begin to clear out all diseased and decayed tissue within the root canals and pulp chamber.
Removing the pulp is necessary, as it contains the infection that is causing the pain. Once this is finished, we will flush out any remaining bacteria before filling the space with gutta-percha. This biocompatible solution helps maintain the tooth’s structural integrity.
A filling will then seal off the tooth from future reinfection before a custom dental crown is placed on top for superior protection.
